QUALIFICATION: BTEC LEVEL 3 EXTENDED NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN PERFORMING ARTS PRACTICE
COURSE LEGNTH: 2 YEARS
CONTACT HOURS: 25+ PER WEEK

Our Level 3 Extended Diploma Acting Track course is unique in its approach with a focus on practical and vocational training. The Acting course is designed to allow pupils, aged 16-19 years, who want to become actors and pursue a career on stage or screen, to fully explore and develop their potential.

Designed to enable students to gain a deeper understanding of the Performing Arts, and the fundamental skills, techniques and methodologies of professional acting, this 2-year course has a varied timetable and includes:

  • Exploring & studying the methodologies of Western theatre practises both British and
    American 
  • Improvisation
  • Classical Theatre & Shakespeare
  • Script Deconstruction
  • Voice & Accent Development
  • Weekly movement classes in: Ballet, Tap & Jazz
  • Singing both ensemble and solo, as well as Acting
    Through Song
  • Audition Repertoire & Monologues
  • Industry Professional Workshop Days
  • Dedicated Assessment & Show Rehearsal Weeks

The inclusion of singing and dance on this course, allows students to grow in strength, well-being, posture and develops memory – vital when learning lines! The physical improvements of the students allows for greater breath support and vocal projection on stage, whilst also making them a more versatile performer.

The PAD prides itself in offering students substantial live performance experience. This includes:

  • Christmas Cabaret – a musical theatre production at the end of Term 1
  • Qualification performance assessments performed to a live audience
  • Summer Showcase – a full scale, end-of-year production, at The Grove Theatre
  • Plus, a theatre production for 2nd Years in Term 2 – performed in our own black-box studio theatre at PAD Studios,
    perfomers experience performing within an immersive theatre experience/in-the-round production.

At The PAD our sixth form students thrive in an environment where the cohort is small, but the contact hours are high. We get to know each and every student, developing their strengths and helping them to uncover who they could be as a unique, professional performer.

We want to reassure any new applicant, that this course is designed to develop you as an actor, but  we know that song & dance skills greatly improve your employability. We do not expect, nor require, applicants to have prior experience in song & dance to apply. We do require applicants to have a real passion for performing, a willingness to learn, a want to improve and a strong drive to become a professional performer!

ENTRY
REQUIREMENTS

We are looking for raw talent that can be developed; a passion to perform and a willingness to learn and explore your full potential. Experience is not necessary as full training in all disciplines is provided.

Students should have achieved at least 5 GCSE’s with at least a Level 4 achieved in English Language and Mathematics to show that they will be able to cope with the demands of a Level 3 course.

Should a student not meet these requirements, please be aware that we may withdraw an offer or the student will be required to attend sessions in Maths and English alongside their vocational training hours.

AUDITION
PROCESS

Attend Open & Audition Day and take part in workshop classes in Acting, Acting Through Song and Dance Technique. 

During the Open Day, present at least one prepared performance from the list below:

One monologue from a published play, classical or contemporary.
(From memory, not from a film, max 2 minutes)

One solo musical theatre song.
(To a full backing track, please bring device with bluetooth connection OR bring sheet music, max 2 minutes)
